Remembering Genevieve

2009 Pileggi Brothers Reunion

The world has lost a special lady. Genevieve Pileggi, my Grandma, passed away last night at age 94 (due to complications from a hip replacement surgery). She is survived by her husband, Andy Pileggi, of 75 years. He is 96 and still riding Harleys. Grandma Pileggi was so much to so many people. A devoted mother to 5 amazing men and their beautiful wives, loving grandmother to (if I counted right) 15, great-grandmother to 6. She was a crafty lady herself (and quite the card shark) and always supported my creative endeavors with generous gifts of fabric, supplies, and even a sewing machine. She was so lucky to live such a long and full life, and to see her family grow from the love she shared with Grandpa.

Although she will be missed, her passing was a blessing in that she will no longer have to suffer the physical pain of the surgery, or endure the devastation of her worsening Alzheimers Disease. I will always remember her beautiful, snowy-white coiffe, her hilarious sneeze, her dedication to her church and family, all-night card games (in which she never cheated), her stories, and her spaghetti.

I love you, Grandma. Addio mia cara nonna.
